Las Vegas may have a well-earned reputation as an adult playground, but don't be fooled: there are plenty of activities for family travel in Las Vegas. From the exotic theme pools that accompany all of the grand resorts to the many interesting musuems throughout the Las Vegas Strip and the surrounding town, Las Vegas is an excellent, and affordable, family travel destination.

The Museums

Las Vegas has its share of kid-friendly museums. Included are the Classic Car musuem at the Imperial Palace Hotel, a treasure trove of vintage automobiles that are sure to delight. Not far from the Strip is Elvis-a-Rama, a collection of all things Elvis, including his US Army uniform and his vintage Rolls Royce. The Lied Children's Discovery Museum is another must-see for families. This modern museum features 25,000-square feet of interactive, hands-on activities about the environment, science, and the natural wonders surrounding Las Vegas.

The Rides

Las Vegas has a number of one-of-a-kind roller coasters. Arguably, the most sensational of these is the coaster atop the Stratosphere Hotel. This 1000-foot coaster offers thrills as well as a sensational view of the Strip, the city of Las Vegas, and the mountains and desert beyond. Inside the Stratosphere Tower is the "Big Shot," an elevator ride that's sure to exite. Down the Strip, at New York New York, is another coaster. This one is 203 tall and snakes around the replica of New York City at speeds of up to 67 miles per hour.

Just Outside of Town

Just outside of Las Vegas lies a wealth of natural beauty. Several national parks, including Red Rock Canyon and Death Valley National Park are within an hour's drive of the Las Vegas Strip. In addition, Hoover Dam, that man-made wonder that supplies power to the entire southern Nevada region is available for tours. Nature enthusiasts will want to take advantage of a flightseeing tour to the Grand Canyon. It's just an hour's flight from Vegas to the South Rim and WOW! what a view.
