A travel guide can be just the extra advice a traveler needs to ease the anxiety of wondering what to pack, what to tip, what to eat, and what to wear. A good guide will also give advice on documentation, health concerns, and of course, sightseeing. Our travel guide pages offer an overview of general tips and travel information for specific destinations. We also offer suggestions on how to be an ecologically-minded traveler and advice to individual groups of travelers, such as students and seniors.
Documentation and Health Precautions
Some of the most important advice a travel guide can offer is on what documentation is required for travel to a particular country. Incorrect documentation can cause a traveler to be denied boarding or turned around back down when he arrives at his destination. Most countries require a valid passport for entry; some also require a visa. This isn't a credit card; it's an official stamp, pasted right inside your passport. Obtaining a visa requires some advance planning, particularly if you must also apply for a passport. Regulations vary, but many countries can take up to 4-6 weeks to process a traveler's application
Depending on where you are traveling, you may be required to get innoculations for diseases prevalent in the area you are visiting, such as typhoid, cholera, or yellow fever. Other regions may have recommendations, such taking as malaria pills prior to your departure. A good travel guide will detail all of this information for you.
What to Pack
No one wants to arrive at their vacation destination with all of the wrong clothes. What is common attire back home may be not at all correct in cosmopolitan (and foreign) cities. There are also religious and cultural considerations. In some countries, it is disrespectful to wear resort wear, such as shorts or short skirts, away from the beach or pool area. Other countries have religious dress customs, such as women covering their head to enter Catholic churches in Europe or women dressing conservatively in Muslim countries.
Travel Guide to Sightseeing
Sightseeing at the core of many a vacation. Most of us travel in order to learn how people of a different country and/or culture live. A travel guide can tell you about the different sites in the cities you will be visiting so that you can best enjoy them. Knowing a little about the history and culture ahead of time can enhance your trip. Whether you enjoy museums, sporting events, nature, shopping, or architecture, there's a travel guide for you.
Planning Your Trip
A well-planned trip is the most enjoyable one. Travel surprises breed anxiety and take away precious vacation time. A carefully-planned day-by-day itinerary also allows you to get the most out of your vacation day without back-tracking and indecision. A little advice can be helpful. Let one of our detailed travel guides help you prepare for your next vacation.
