China Travel Specials
From LoveToKnow Travel
Finding China travel specials is possible – and even easy – if you know where to look. China, with the world's largest population and third largest land mass, offers visitors a wealth of cultural, spiritual, and natural wonders. It's a fascinating country, just waiting to be explored. Below is just a sampling of China's many attractions.
Beijing
China's capital city, Beijing, is loaded with history, culture, and people. Among the many sights in this bustling city are the Forbidden City, the ancestral house of the Chinese emperors and their family and court; the Temple of Heaven (pictured above), a Taoist shrine built in the 15th century; and Tiananmen Square, the huge public square in front of the Forbidden City and site of the 1989 citizen uprising and massacre. Beijing is the site of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Shanghai
Shanghai, China's largest city, is located along the country's eastern coast, on the banks of the Yangtze River. A cosmopolitan center in the early 20th century to rival Paris and London, Shanghai languished after the Communist takeover in 1949. Among the city's many sights are The Bund (literally "the embankment"), home to a series of elegant early 20th century buildings that house financial centers, embassies, and multinational companies; the Jade Buddha Temple, founded in 1882; and the Yuyuan Gardens, considered to be one of the four finest gardens in China.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong, part of China again since 1997, is an interesting cross between East and West. The city, which incorporates more than 260 islands and a portion of the mainland south of Canton, is a major world financial and commercial center. In addition, the city boasts excellent shopping, many fine dining and ethnic restaurants, and spectacular views for the top of Victoria Peak. Among Hong Kong's most famous sights are the Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island; the star ferry, which traverses Hong Kong harbor every seven minutes; and the horse racing at Happy Valley. For a slightly different twist to a familiar favorite, visit Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened in 2005.
Finding China Travel Specials
Finding China travel specials is best achieved with the aid of a travel agent or student travel planner. These travel professionals can sift through the myriad of travel information to help you find the trip that's best suited to your needs. In addition, a travel professional can assist with obtaining the necessary documentation – a passport and China visa stamped into your passport.
- Take a Tour – Tours, packages that include airfare, accommodations, sightseeing, and meals in one price, frequently offer a significant savings over buying each travel component separately. Tour operators, such as Pacific Delight Tours, Affordable Tours, and Orient Flexi Pax, among others offer a variety of such packages.
- Consider a Cruise – Cruising offers a unique way to see China. It also often offers a savings when compared to similar land-based vacations. Cruising has the added advantage of eliminating the need to pack and unpack and check into and out of hotels. You simply cruise to your next destination during the night. Cruise food and service, too, tend to be more suited to Western sensibilities.
- Student Travel Packages – Student trips can also be a good way to find China travel specials. Such trips are offered through special student-oriented operators, such as World Expeditions and EF Tours.
