Discount Hawaii Vacation Packages
From LoveToKnow Travel
Traveling to Hawaii need not bust your budget; there are discount Hawaii vacation packages available. You can find a great deal to visit this tropical destination with a little homework and creativity.
Off Season Travel
Hawaii is a popular destination, but there are busy times and slow times. If you can travel during the slow time, or off season, you will save significantly. The times to avoid traveling are:
- December and early January
- Spring break time, or March and April
- Summer months, or May through August
Be Flexible With Dates
Some of the best packages may be booked for specific dates. If you can vary your arrival by just a week or two, you may save significantly.
Online Pricing and Booking
The Internet is a valuable tool for finding discount Hawaii vacation packages. Many travel companies have websites where you can compare the prices. Sign up for email alerts that will tell you if there is a special available. You can also bid for low hotel and air rates. Check for specials and discounts at:
Pick Your Destination Wisely
All of the islands have beautiful beaches and lush scenery. The difference is the price you’ll pay. Honolulu and Oahu are the most expensive; Honolulu is a large city and prices are higher. Maui is also pricier because of its popularity. Instead, consider visiting one of the other islands, such as Molokai or Kauai. These are smaller in population and less expensive.
Build Your Own Discount Hawaii Vacation Package
While airfare and hotel combos may be cheaper, you can put together your own package which may be less expensive than those offered by tour companies or travel sites.
Airfare
Your air ticket may be the most expensive part of the trip; looking for cheap airfare may save you a lot of money. Booking your airfare in advance can lower the price significantly. Reserving early saves you from any fare increases and you will be eligible for the lowest fares.
If you cash in your airline mileage rewards, you may be able to fly for free. Some airlines also offer hotel packages along with airfare. These bundles can be very cost efficient.
You may also get a big discount for last minute bookings. Check with the travel websites for last minute specials you can cash in on.
Hotel
If you are booking your hotel separately, be aware that most Hawaiian hotels offer packages and discounts. Contact them directly to find out what might be available.
Look for all-inclusive hotels. While the rate seems higher, these rates often include taxes, meals and other amenities. They can work out cheaper in the long run.
Smaller hotels and Bed and Breakfasts can be less expensive, yet just as comfortable and well-located as the larger hotels. You may also get more personalized service.
Booking a Discount Package
When you do find a good package, be sure you understand all the terms and conditions. Read all the fine print and ask questions if you are unsure. Look for any hidden costs or cost that may not be included in your quote, such as taxes, gratuities or airline fees. These can add up quickly and your good deal may not be so great.
When dealing with an online travel agency, verify their credentials. Legitimate travel agencies will belong to the American Society of Travel Agents, or ASTA. Check the ASTA website for a travel agent’s membership and any complaints that may have been filed.
Don’t book if you cannot verify a physical address for the agent, or if the agent will not tell you the exact airline and hotel. Be cautious if the package seems too good to be true. These are usually warning signs of a shady deal.
There are plenty of discount Hawaii vacation packages out there. Do your homework and you can be lying on a magnificent sand beach.
