Georgia Travel is on many people's minds these days. Georgia, situated in the southeast of the United States, is a warm state filled with southern hospitality, a surprising amount of old world culture, active hiking, camping and outdoor activities, and lots of peaches. The state offers lots of natural beauty in the form of tree-covered mountains, the Okefenokee swamp, and acres of untouched woodlands. Some of its most famous cities have many old buildings left over from the colonist days.

Georgia Travel - When To Go

Georgia is beautiful all year round, though you may want to avoid the hot and humid summers (especially in the southern part of the state). Many Georgians take trips to the mountainous northeast in the fall to see the rolling landscape painted with color. Wintertime, even in the mountains, is bearable, with only light dustings of snow and temperatures hovering just above freezing.

Getting to Georgia

Flying into Georgia, you'll most likely land in Hartsfield International Airport in the southern part of Atlanta. The capitol city resides just north of the state's center and is a hub of economic and cultural activity.

If you arrive by car, Georgia's winding roads may confuse you. Much of the state was built during the colony years and isn't laid out on a grid system. Atlanta especially can be daunting. Have a good atlas ready to guide you where you need to go. And if you get lost, enjoy the sights anyway!

Traveling in Georgia

Camping and hiking are two of the biggest draws of this state outside of city sightseeing. Most head north to the mountains to breathe fresh air and see an endless view of rolling tree-covered hills. You'll need a car to get where you need to go in Georgia. Major car rental companies are abound in the state, so finding one isn't a problem.

Within Atlanta, a few taxi and bus services can take you where you need to go. MARTA, the city's rail service, has skeletal routes that can take you to major sights. Even with the crowded traffic situation, the best way to explore Atlanta is by car. Rush hours are at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and can last for a few hours, so plan around these hectic times.
