Something for Everyone

The Lied Children’s Discovery Museum caters to children of all ages and their parents as well. In addition to the wide variety of exhibits that are specifically created for children, there is a Parent’s Resource room. Here, families can relax and meet other families while finding and exploring literature and community resources.

There is also an area at the Lied Children’s Discovery Museum that offers a selection of stimulating learning experiences for babies. These include a pull-up bar, ramps, and a variety of colorful, eye-stimulating toys of various textures.

Featured Exhibits at the Lied Children's Discovery Museum

The Lied Children’s Discovery Museum features several regular exhibits that allow children to explore regions from around the world, to learn about science, and to learn more about the role they play in society and in the environment.

Desert Discovery

Desert Discovery is designed for small children ages 5 and under. This exhibit has been developed to address and appeal to the learning styles of this age group. Activities include cooperative play and use of sorting and categorizing activities. The exhibit also houses activities that have been designed to promote curiosity and the development of fine motor skills while having fun.

Boulder Mountain

Boulder Mountain is a special area that allows children to explore the world through building and cooperative effort. Children dress up in work apparel, such as hardhats and vests. Then, they get busy with activities such as mining boulders, which are actually soft, boulder-like sculptures. They also have the opportunity to use tools such as telescopes, phones, buckets, and elevators. At this exhibit, children have the opportunity to work together in order to get supplies to other children that are playing with the Cactus Construction activity, where the goal is to build a special structure using the soft building blocks provided.

Desert in the Dark

The Desert in the Dark exhibit explores nocturnal life in the desert. The exhibits in this area reinforce the concepts of day and night by having the children first enter into a bedroom complete with bed, nightclothes, and a clock featuriing night and day. The children then progress into a dessert setting at night, where they are introduced to the creatures of the night through activities, video, and displays.

The Discovery Store

The Discovery Store at The Lied Children’s Museum is an interactive exhibit that allows children to role-play while learning about grocery shopping. In addition, children get to feel what it is like to be an employee when they become a checker or as they stock the shelves at the center.

Other fun, Learning Exhibits

The Lied Children’s Museum has a radio communication area, a movie theatre, a bubble making area, an area that features fire fighting, a science exhibit, and a weather exhibit.
