Las Vegas Travel Info

From LoveToKnow Travel

Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. Carved from the Nevada desert, the sparkling city is one of the fastest growing metropolises in the country. For the tourist, Las Vegas has world class restaurants, fascinating mega-resorts, spectacular and unique shopping, name entertainers and Broadway-style shows, and – of course – casino gambling. Just outside of town, Nevada’s many natural and man-made wonders, such as Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam, attract thousands of visitors each year. Las Vegas makes an affordable and fun vacation for families and honeymooners as well as those just looking to escape for a couple of days.

City that never sleeps

The Strip

Ever since Bugsy Siegal opened the Flamingo Hotel in 1946, Las Vegas’ strip has been a center of glamour, entertainment, and gambling. Today, mega-resorts, such as the Bellagio, the Venetian, New York New York, Paris Las Vegas, and the Mirage compete for vacationers’ attention and travel dollars. Where else, but Las Vegas can you visit Egypt, Italy, France, and New York – all within a one mile walk. In addition to sparkling and exciting casinos, filled with slot machines and table games, the resorts along the Las Vegas Strip offer unique themed shopping plazas, such as the Caesar’s Forum shops, eateries of every genre from coffee shops to fine dining restaurants, and dance clubs that stay open until the wee hours of the morning. Some of the resorts also feature important art museums, such as the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in the Venetian Resort.

Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas, just a ten-minute drive from the Strip, is where serious gamblers come to play. Casinos, such as the Four Queens, the Golden Nugget, and Binion’s offer a variety of slots and table games including poker. The slot machine odds are generally slightly more favorable to the player at the downtown casinos when compared to the Strip. The neon is bright along Fremont Street, the center of the downtown “Glitter Gulch” and one of the downtown highlights is the “Fremont Experience” each hour, when the dome over the street erupts in a fantastic and colorful laser show accompanied by music.

Vegas for Kids

Families with kids will find plenty to interest them in Las Vegas. The city has one of the best Children’s Museums in the country. In addition, there are roller coasters all over town; one is even atop the Stratosphere Resort Tower. All of the large resorts compete for the most fantastic and interesting pool area. The Mandalay Bay Resort even has a man-made beach. You’ll find family-friendly entertainment in Las Vegas, also, with shows featuring such entertainers as the illusionist David Copperfield and the universally popular Cirque de Soleil.

Just Outside of Town

Hoover Dam near Las Vegas

Just outside of Las Vegas, the natural beauty of Nevada entices visitors. Red Rock Canyon and its fantastic rock formations, the forbidding yet fascinating Death Valley, and Hoover Dam and adjacent Lake Mead are all within a short drive from Las Vegas. The Grand Canyon in Arizona is just a four-hour drive away from Vegas or visitors can take a “flightseeing” trip in a small plane or helicopter over the Canyon to the South Rim.

Whatever your interests, Las Vegas is sure to intrigue you. It’s a friendly and affordable town that offers surprises around every corner. Come and visit this uniquely American destination. You’re sure to return again and again.
