Luxor Hotel

From LoveToKnow Travel

The Luxor Hotel, at the south end of the Las Vegas strip, is an Egyptian-themed hotel, dominated by a striking 350-foot tall pyramid, capped by a beacon so bright it's visible from space. Built in 1993, the hotel boasts 4408 guest rooms and suites, housed in the pyramid and the adjacent twin towers. It offers the ultimate in luxury accommodations, dining, and gaming.

Accommodations

The Luxor Las Vegas offers 4408 guest rooms and suites, all decorated in muted desert colors. Pyramid rooms overlook the atrium and are reached by a unique diagonal elevator. Pyramid suites have a separate living room as well as an oversized bath with a Jacuzzi tub.

The tower rooms, added in 1998, feature sweeping city views and large well-appointed bathrooms.

All accommodations include air conditioning, color cable TV with a remote, pay-per-view movies, high-speed Internet access, AM/FM clock radio and alarm, and an iron and ironing board. Mini-refrigerators are available at a small daily charge.

Facilities at the Luxor Hotel

The Luxor Hotel offers guests a wide variety of activities. In addition to the casino, the hotel features a full spa and salon, a lavish pool complex with five separate pools and private cabannas for rent, a state-of-the-art work-out room, a steam room, a shopping arcade, and 20,000 square feet of meeting and convention space.

The huge Luxor atrium houses an IMAX theater as well as King Tut's Museum, an exhibit of authenic Egyptian artifacts.

In addition, the hotel offers 24-hour room service, free parking, valet service, a travel and car rental desk, safety-deposit box rental, a florist, a business center, and a show ticket desk.

The hotel's nightclub, RA, is one of Las Vegas' most popular dance clubs. The 19,000-square foot club opens at 10pm and offers non-stop music well into the early morning hours.

The Casino

The Luxor Hotel has a huge 120,000 casino located just off the hotel lobby. The Luxor's casino offers all of the popular table games, including blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, Big Six, Pai Gow, Caribbean stud poker, Let it Ride, and Keno. In addition, the Luxor Casino has 2000 slot machines, including video poker and video Keno games. The racing and sports book room and the private poker room are some of the most frequented in town.

Shopping

The Luxor Hotel offers a variety of shopping opportunities. The Giza Gallery is reminiscent of an Egyptian bazaar. The 29 quality retailers here include an art gallery; a bath and beauty products store; a store featuring replicas of Egyptian antiquities, books, and manuscripts; and a Luxor logo shop. Like most shops in Las Vegas, the stores in the Giza Gallery stay open until midnight.

Dining at the Luxor Hotel

Guests of the Luxor Hotel need never leave the hotel to enjoy a variety of restaurants. The hotel's eateries include:
  • The Luxor Steakhouse - An elegant steakhouse serving aged prime beef in an intimate, cherry-wood paneled dining room.
  • Fusia - A striking, high-ceilinged dining room that serves delicious food, combining old favorites with an exotic twist. The 90-seat lounge is a Las Vegas favorite and the appetizers at the bar are generous and tasty.
  • Pharaoh's Pheast Buffet - This is the Luxor's take on the traditional Las Vegas buffet. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, it features a 30-foot long salad bar, a homemade pizza station, two carving stations, an omelet station, and pastries from around the world. It's a favorite of guests of all ages.
