One Day Tours Hawaii
From LoveToKnow Travel
Whether you're on Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Oahu, Molokai, or the Big Island, you will want to know about one day tours that are available on each of these beautiful islands. You may want to go on an actual group tour with a guide, or rent a car and do it on your own. Whatever you decide to do, there are many spectacular sights to see on the Islands of Hawaii.
Choosing One Day Tours of Hawaii
If you do go on a tour with a guide, you will often pay for your trip in advance when you make your reservations. Depending on the tour, your admission to the various attractions will be included with your tour package. Check to see if you will be stopping to eat along the way. Often meals at scenic restaurants are part of the ticket price.
Tour Companies
There are many tour companies to choose from, including:
- Roberts Hawaii – One of the largest tour companies on the islands, this group can accommodate you for day trips or overnight excursions to Maui, Kauai, or Big Island.
- Polynesian Adventure Tours – This big company will take you to the outer islands.
- Aloha Island Tours – This company only offers day trips to those wanting to spend time touring Kauai, Maui, or Big Island.
One other option is to purchase a 7-day island pass from Aloha Airlines. This costs $336 and allows you unlimited flights between all of the islands.
Some Popular Tours
Touring Kauai
The furthest north, Kauai is the oldest island. Some of the attractions include:
- Waimea Canyon which is a 3,500-foot deep canyon.
- Wailua River will provide you with breath-taking waterfalls and jungle-like landscape. Take a kayak or a canoe to explore the Opaekaa and Wailua Falls, or go on a boat tour. You'll see why these falls serve as a popular spot to have a wedding ceremony. A boat ride to the Fern Grotto where large ferns drape the landscape, can be very romantic.
Touring Oahu
At the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial you can learn about the historical attack on Pearl Harbor. This floating shrine was constructed over the sunken Battleship U.S.S. Arizona.
Touring Maui
Haleakala National Park is home to the Haleakala Crater, the largest dormant volcano in the world. This park has wilderness, waterfalls, streams, and deserts.
Touring Lanai
Keahiakawelo is a rock garden. It holds amazing rocks of all sizes which look red and purple when the sun sets against them.
Touring Molokai
Ala Malama Avenue is the town's main road where you can shop in many fine gift stores and boutiques.
Touring the Big Island
- The historic district of Hilo on the eastern side of the main island offers an assortment of cultural and scenic places. See Kalakaua Park and the Lyman Museum and Mission House.
- Located on the northern Hamakua Coast, the fertile and sacred Waipio Valley was the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I. The Big Island's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls flows from 1,300 feet.
- The main island also has plantation, beach, coffee farm, and volcano tours.
How to Get Around
If your one day trips take you from one island to another island, travel by plane, helicopter, or boat may be necessary. Many tours will pick you up early in the morning in a mini-bus at your hotel. From there you will go with a group to your flight, or to board your sea-faring vessel. Tours are guided by professionals who know the islands well.
If you happen to be staying with friends or family, the tours ask that you drive to the closest point of pick up where you can join the tour.
What to Bring
Tours recommend that you bring a light jacket or sweater because the breezes blowing across the ocean can be chilly, especially when the sun sets. Also, air conditioning in the tour buses can be cool. Comfortable shoes, a snack, a bottled beverage, cash for the souvenir shops, and of course, your picture I.D. are some other necessary items to bring along.
Summary
This unique set of islands provides many wonderful sightseeing opportunities. So grab your camera, a good pair of walking shoes, and an adventure-loving spirit, so that you can enjoy exploring the islands on your one day tours of Hawaii.
