A Quick Summary of Skybus Reviews

Skybus is a private, low-fare airline based on an incredibly simple business model: radically lower the cost of flying by driving down operational costs. The result is a stripped-down, no-frills service that has generated a quite a mixed bag of Skybus reviews.

America’s Cheapest Air Fares

Most all Skybus reviews acknowledge that, at $10 a ticket, Skybus takes budget air travel to a whole new level. Getting one of these $10 dollar tickets, however, is quite a challenge because only the very first 10 seats are priced this low.

Typically, the $10 seats to popular destinations sell out the same morning that they go on sale. Getting one requires you to purchase your ticket well in advance. As additional tickets sell, the fare increases as well. It is also worth noting that the $10 charge does not include taxes and fees, which brings the final price of the ticket closer to $40 dollars than $10.

Automated Service

Skybus capitalizes on the Internet to automate every single service that can efficiently be automated, such as sales and customer support. Booking your ticket and checking-in can all be done at the Skybus website or at a Skybus airport kiosk, making the process quick and easy.

However, if you need help or want additional information, there is no contact number or booking office available. You may send you inquiry via email or leave a message at their online help center, but it may take over twenty-four hours to get a response.

Control Over What You Pay For

Skybus is a truly no-frills air travel service. The cost of your ticket (plus taxes) pays to get you to your destination – nothing more, nothing less. Many of the services that come standard on a regular airline are only available at an additional charge. You get to select which extras, if any, that you would like to pay for.

Here are the main ones:

  • Creature comforts such as food, drink and pillows must be purchased in-flight. Even a glass of water will cost you. What’s more, you cannot take any food of your own onto the flight. Exceptions are made for babies and those with medical conditions or dietary restrictions.
  • There is an extra charge if you would like to have your bags checked in. It costs less than $5 for the first two bags and $50 for any number over that.
  • There is a $25 charge for over-weight luggage. However, they will not accept any bags that weigh more than 75 pounds. Here’s a summary of the baggage charges:
Skybus Baggage Check-in Charges
Service Charges
Carry-on LuggageFree
Luggage Check-in - first two bags$5
Luggage Check-in - three or more bags$50
Over-weight luggage - Up to 75 pounds$25

Non-stop Flights

Skybus flies non-stop to 16 U.S. destinations, eliminating the time wasted by connecting flights. Furthermore, it specifically flies into the least-congested airports. This not only cuts cots, but also dramatically minimizes the delays that are so characteristic of air travel today. While this increases traffic to previously under-served airports, it does limit your options with regard to connecting flights.

In-flight Sales and Advertising

Skybus passengers are a captive audience for subtle and not so subtle in flight advertising. Tee-shirted flight attendants also ply merchandise during the flight. Not surprisingly, there is few, if any, positive Skybus reviews for this aspect of flying with this carrier.

Pay Less, Travel More

Depending on your needs (and checkbook), your Skybus reviews may be very favorable or entirely unfavorable regarding this discount air travel service. There are those who say you get your money’s worth when you fly Skybus – and not a penny more. For those who are looking to pay less while traveling more, Skybus Airlines is your kind of Airline.
