The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild was named in memory of Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild. The wife of Maurice Ephrussi, who lived as one of France’s most prominent and wealthy bankers, Beatrice devoted her existence and wealth to the preservation and maintenance of the arts.

The Museum at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

Beatrice’s focus was to build magnificent residences, one of which is now the Rothschild museum. Over the years, she amassed countless pieces of priceless art along with one of the most impressive antique furniture collections ever. In the building of the Rothschild Villa, Beatrice employed many art dealers and those brilliant in art decoration, to create one of the most splendid of places.

Based on the expertise of the many she had to help, Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild was able to transform the Villa into a haven for collectors, boasting an overflowing and impressive art collection and home. The ground floor of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild houses the Louis XV and Louis XVI rooms that are home to the unique collections of 18th century furniture and paintings. This room is also home to an overwhelming collection of china pieces.

The First Floor

The first floor of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is home to the most exquisite and impressive pieces in the Baroness’s collection. The Jacob Furniture, an antique collection that is adorned in Beauvais tapestry, is tastefully displayed in the tapestry room. The room decorated in monkeys displaying human follies is known as the synergies room and the Fragonard room displays work that is unrivaled to any other.

It is one of the many wonders of the tour. The taste of the Baroness is definitely not in debate based on the featured porcelain in this room. Throughout her travels, she was able to acquire a collection of French porcelain that is unsurpassed. The pieces of porcelain feature rare specimens of Sevres and Vincennes. The room recently underwent a restoration that proudly displays the plates, saucers, platters, and vases that were produced in royal porcelain factories.
