Shannon Kietzman is the mother of four young boys, two of which are twins. She and her family enjoy traveling regularly and continually seek new places to explore and new adventures to embark upon. The group goal of her family is to visit all of the National Parks within the United States.
Travel Experience
Shannon has traveled extensively with her children in tow. From the time her children were infants, Shannon was taking them on hikes and long drives to fabulous vacation destinations. She has traveled to all parts of the country and to a couple foreign countries, as well. As both a parent and an educator, she strongly believes in the importance of exposing children to the vast world that is out there waiting to be explored.
Education
Shannon has a master's degree in educational curriculum and development with an emphasis in elementary education. She earned both her bachelor's degree and her master's degree from Purdue University North Central. In addition, she has endorsements/minors in teaching reading, teaching computers, and teaching students with emotional handicaps.
Teaching Experience
Shannon is currently employed as a teacher of middle school students with emotional disabilities. She also works with her after school program to provide enrichment opportunities to elementary and middle school students. In addition, she works with Purdue University North Central's Super Summer program, which provides enrichment opportunities to gifted elementary children.
Shannon also works as a consultant to area schools and provides teacher workshops through Purdue University North Central. Topics she teaches include behavior management, education of the gifted child, inclusion, differentiation, reading, teaching mathematics, and hands on science learning.
Writing Experience
In addition to teaching, Shannon works as a freelance writer. She has written hundreds of articles for the Internet on a wide variety of subjects, including education, health, gardening, home improvement,pets and much more. She has also performed copywriting services for a variety of businesses.
Shannon has also written a book of mini-mysteries with Remedia Publications containing high interest stories for struggling readers. In addition, she has written hundreds of standardized questions for companies such as CTB McGraw-Hill in the subjects of science, math, and language arts. Shannon has also written a book, "Steps to Stardom Volume 1," which will be internationally distributed along with a documentary film in the summer of 2006.
